Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Focus Timer

Open the Focus tab (the timer icon in the bottom navigation). Choose your session duration using the time selector or pick a preset. Tap the large play button in the center to begin. You can also customize the session name, assign tasks, and select a completion sound before starting.
Yes. While a session is running, tap the pause button to pause it at any time. Tap the stop/X button to end the session early. Partial sessions are still logged in your analytics so you always have an accurate record of your focus time.
On the Focus screen, tap the preset chips (e.g., "25 min", "50 min") and hold, or use the edit icon if available, to manage your saved presets. You can create custom durations, rename presets, and reorder them to match your workflow. Presets are saved locally on your device.
Yes. On Android, FocusPro AI runs a foreground timer service that keeps the session active even when you switch apps or lock your screen. On iOS, a Live Activity appears on your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island (iPhone 14 Pro and later) showing the remaining time. Make sure notifications are enabled for full background timer support.

Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro technique is a time management method that alternates focused work intervals (traditionally 25 minutes) with short breaks (5 minutes), followed by a longer break after every 4 cycles. FocusPro AI implements an 8-step Pomodoro cycle with fully configurable work durations, short break durations, and long break durations. Switch to Pomodoro mode on the Focus tab.
Yes. Go to Profile > Settings > Pomodoro Settings to customize:
  • Focus interval duration (default 25 min)
  • Short break duration (default 5 min)
  • Long break duration (default 15 min)
  • Number of cycles before a long break (default 4)
  • Auto-start breaks and next sessions

AI Features

The AI coach can provide personalized productivity advice, analyze your session patterns, suggest optimal focus times based on your history, help you prioritize tasks, generate daily and weekly summaries, motivate you during slumps, and answer general productivity questions. Access it via the AI tab in the bottom navigation.
Messages you send to the AI are transmitted securely to our AI providers to generate responses — Groq (Llama models) is used first, and OpenRouter (open models) is used automatically as a fallback if Groq is unavailable. They receive only your message and the focus-session context needed to answer it. Your Google Calendar events and Google account data are never sent to any AI provider, your chat history is stored locally on your device, and no user data is stored on our servers. We recommend not including sensitive personal information in AI chat messages. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Yes. In the AI tab, tap the menu icon (three dots) in the top right corner and select "Clear Chat History." This removes all locally stored conversation history from your device.

Google Calendar Sync

Go to Profile > Integrations > Google Calendar and tap "Connect Google Account." You will be prompted to sign in with your Google account and grant calendar read permissions. Once connected, your upcoming events will appear in the Schedule tab. You can connect more than one Google account.
Turn on "Show tasks in Google" in Profile > Integrations, then pick which calendars to publish to. This is optional and off by default — the App only asks for permission to write events when you enable it. From then on, every upcoming task you schedule is written to those calendars as a private busy block, so colleagues and booking tools can see you're heads-down. Change a task's time and the block moves; delete or complete the task and the block is removed.
No. Every block the App publishes is titled simply "Focusing Session", is marked private, and shows you as busy. Your real task names never leave the App.
No. The App tags every event it creates with a private marker, and it only ever updates or deletes events carrying that marker. Your meetings and other events are read to display your schedule and warn about conflicts — they are never changed or deleted. You can delete any published "Focusing Session" from inside the App, turn off "Show tasks in Google," disconnect the account, or revoke access entirely via your Google account permissions.
If calendar sync isn't working, try these steps:
  • Ensure you have an active internet connection.
  • Go to Profile > Integrations and check that Google Calendar shows "Connected."
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Google account.
  • Verify that the App has calendar permissions in your device Settings > Apps > FocusPro AI > Permissions.
  • If the issue persists, contact us at support@focusproai.app.

Private Notes & Categories

Mark any note as private and it disappears from your list, search, and counts until you unlock it. The first time you do this you'll set a password and be shown a one-time recovery code — save that code somewhere safe. You can then unlock with Face ID or fingerprint for quick access.
Use the one-time recovery code shown when you first set up the lock — it's the only way back in. Your password is never stored or uploaded (we keep only a one-way hash of it on your device), so neither we nor anyone else can reset it for you. If you've lost both the password and the recovery code, the locked notes cannot be unlocked.
Yes. If you enable Cloud Backup, your notes and the lock configuration (the salt and hashes — never your password or recovery code) go into your own Google Drive backup, so your locked notes can be restored on a new device. Note that the lock is an on-device access gate rather than encryption of the note content itself.
Biometric unlock uses your device's secure Keychain or Keystore, and changing your biometric enrollment — adding a new face or fingerprint, for example — deliberately invalidates it. Unlock with your password once and you can re-enable biometrics.
With Pro, you can create categories with your own name, color, and icon, and recolor or rename the built-in ones (Work, Study, Reading, Exercise, Play, Personal, Health, Other). Your categories carry through the schedule, analytics, and your home-screen widgets. Only creating new custom categories requires Pro — your existing data is never locked away.
Nothing is lost. Deleting a custom category reassigns all of its tasks to "Other," so your history and analytics stay intact.

Subscription & Billing

The free plan includes the core focus timer, Pomodoro technique, basic task management, limited AI interactions per day, standard analytics, and widget support. Pro features include unlimited AI coaching, advanced analytics, all themes, priority support, and more.
Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android), not through FocusPro AI directly.
  • iOS: Open Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > FocusPro AI > Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: Open Google Play > tap your profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions > FocusPro AI > Cancel.
You will retain Pro access until the end of the current billing period.
Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, depending on which platform you purchased from.
  • iOS: Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID.
  • Android: Open Google Play, go to your order history, and select "Request a refund."
If you have trouble with the refund process, email us at support@focusproai.app and we will assist you.
First, try the "Restore Purchases" option in Profile > Subscription > Restore Purchases. This re-validates your purchase with the App Store or Google Play. If features are still not unlocked after restoring, ensure you are using the same Apple ID or Google account you used to purchase, and try restarting the App. If the issue continues, contact us at support@focusproai.app with your purchase receipt.

Data & Backup

All your focus sessions, tasks, notes, and profile data are stored locally on your device. We do not have our own servers storing your personal data. If you enable Google Drive backup, your data is saved to your own Google Drive account — we cannot access it.
Go to Profile > Cloud Backup and toggle on "Google Drive Backup." You will be prompted to sign in with your Google account and grant Drive access. Once enabled, the App will automatically back up your data at intervals you can configure. You can also trigger a manual backup at any time from the same screen.
Deleting the App removes all locally stored data from your device permanently. If you have Google Drive backup enabled, your backed-up data will remain in your Google Drive and can be restored when you reinstall the App. We strongly recommend enabling Drive backup before uninstalling if you want to preserve your history.
Yes, using Google Drive backup. Enable Drive backup on your old device before switching. On your new device, install FocusPro AI, sign in with the same Google account, go to Profile > Cloud Backup > Restore, and select your most recent backup. Your sessions, tasks, streaks, and settings will be restored.

Widgets

  • iOS: Long-press on your home screen, tap the "+" button, search for "FocusPro AI," and choose from the available widget sizes and types.
  • Android: Long-press on your home screen, tap "Widgets," scroll to find FocusPro AI, then drag a widget to your desired location.
FocusPro AI offers 5 widget types including a quick-start timer, daily stats, task list, streak tracker, and focus ring.
Widget refresh is managed by iOS and Android and may have slight delays. To force a refresh:
  • Open the FocusPro AI app — this triggers a widget data refresh.
  • On iOS, remove and re-add the widget from your home screen.
  • On Android, ensure the App has background refresh permissions in Settings > Battery > App Battery Usage.
If widgets are still not updating, try restarting your device.
